— -- A car struck a black bear on a Florida road tonight, triggering a series of events that ended with three people dead and several others injured, officials said.

The bear was crossing Snake Road in the Miccosukee Indian reservation when it was hit by a car and killed, Gary Bitner, a spokesman for the Seminole Tribe said.

A second stopped to help those who were involved in the first collision, and a third car coming down the dark windy road smashed into the crowd and hit the first car, Bitner said.

It is believed that the third car caused the majority of the casualties, he said.

It was not clear how many people injured in the accident, but the Broward County Sheriff's Office said some people were being transported to the hospital by air and ground.

This is the first car-on-bear collision on the reservation in memory, according to Bitner.
