-- Good Samaritans in DeLand, Florida, rushed into action yesterday to rescue a man whose out-of-control car flipped over several times before coming to a stop with smoke billowing from the wreckage.
The dramatic incident was caught on tape, and shows the moment that the car goes out of control on South Woodland Boulevard and starts to flip, leaving a trail of debris behind. Good Samaritans can be seen rushing to help the driver. Jarrod Winfield was among them.
“I just immediately did what everyone else was doing trying to get him out of the car and we all came up with the idea if there was enough people we could flip it,” Winfield said in an interview with ABC News.
Working together, they used their combined manpower to turn the flipped car back over and get the driver out. One person even brought a fire extinguisher to fight the flames.
“Whenever we flipped it over I noticed it had a sunroof on it and immediately I jumped on top of the car and I figured that’s how we would get the guy out because the windows were completely crushed,” Winfield added.
The car left the roadway and hit three other vehicles before flipping, police added. They’ve launched an investigation into the incident.
Witness Kelly Robinson said described the scene as a being “like a war zone,” adding, “It’s crazy that that car flipped so many times and there was actually someone in there who survived.”
