— -- A highway patrol officer is being celebrated after he saved a woman from choking on a busy New York City highway.

Police Officer Gregory Zakoscielny of NYPD Highway 1 was on a routine speed enforcement drive Wednesday when he saw a 2014 Ford Taurus stop in the right line, NYPD said.

Zakoscielny noticed that the driver of the car, a 49-year-old woman, was choking on a piece of candy.

Dashcam video shows Zakoscielny asking the woman to come out of her car. Standing on the side of the road, he performed the Heimlich maneuver on her, removing the candy from her throat and likely saving her life, police said.
