Oklahoma Double-Murder Suspect Dead, Deputy Sheriff Wounded After Shootout

— -- Michael Vance, who was the subject of a weeklong nationwide manhunt after he allegedly engaged in a shooting spree that left two dead and four wounded, has been killed in a shootout with police in western Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office late Sunday night updated a widely publicized wanted poster of Vance to read "DECEASED" in block letters in a Facebook post.
"This evening, we were informed double homicide suspect Michale Dale Vance was killed near Leedey in Dewey County. The Dewey County Sheriff was also injured during a confrontation with the suspect. The Dewey County Sheriff's injuries are non life threatening. We will post new information as we receive it," the post declared.
Authorities confirmed that a Dewey County sheriff’s deputy was injured in the incident on Sunday night but is expected to survive.
The shootout occurred after a car matching the description of one Vance allegedly stole was spotted near a campsite north of the town of Hammon in a rural part of western Oklahoma, authorities said.
Vance had sparked a nationwide manhunt after allegedly going on a shooting rampage that killed his aunt and uncle, wounded two police officers and involved the shooting of a man in an attempted carjacking.
He was charged with two counts of murder on Friday for the alleged crime spree that began Sunday, Oct. 23.
Col. Rick Adams of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol tweeted out this photo after the incident ended.
The search for Vance had gone cold until Sunday night when a farmer reported seeing him near the Washita River on Highway 34 in Hammon, roughly 35 miles north of Sayre, where he was ultimately killed.
