— -- Remains recovered by police in Virginia have been positively identified as missing college student Anjelica "AJ" Hadsell, Norfolk Police said Friday, as the investigation into her death continues.

The remains were found in Southampton County, Virginia, on Thursday, police said, and were sent to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office to be identified and to determine the cause of death.

Police said they have not made any arrests and the cause of death has not been determined.

Norfolk police told ABC News in a statement Friday: "Chief of Police Michael Goldsmith and the dedicated members of the Norfolk Police Department express their deepest sympathies to the Hadsell family and thank the many federal, state, and local agencies that have assisted throughout the course of this investigation. The department’s efforts are now focused on bringing closure to the Hadsell family, as the investigation into A.J.’s death continues."

Hadsell, 18, had been missing since March 2, according to police. She was a freshman at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, and was home for spring break in the coastal community of Norfolk when she disappeared, police said.
