Texas to New York brace for severe weather, with flash flooding threatening Texas to Missouri

A storm system is putting 45 million people from Texas to New York on alert for severe weather on Tuesday, while those in states from Texas to Missouri are bracing for major flash flooding.

Here's what you need to know:

Several severe thunderstorm watches are in effect Tuesday evening from Texas to Ohio. These storms could bring damaging wind gusts up to 75 mph, large hail and possibly tornadoes.

One enhanced area for severe weather stretches from Louisville, Kentucky, to Cleveland to Pittsburgh to Buffalo, New York. The second enhanced area covers Texas and Oklahoma.

Life-threatening flash flooding is also a major concern on Tuesday and Wednesday from Texas to Missouri, with Oklahoma in the bull's-eye.

Three to 7 inches of rain is in the forecast, adding to the already saturated soil from heavy rain over the weekend.

Along with the flash flooding threat, the storms could also bring large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes from Waco, Texas, to Dallas to Little Rock, Arkansas.
