Prosecutors have argued that the trunk smelled of a decomposing body, while defense lawyers said the foul smell came from garbage left in the trunk. This picture shows a Gatorade bottle that was found near Caylee Anthony's remains. A syringe was found in the bottle and its contents tested positive for testosterone and a strong cleaning fluid. The bottle was found in a red Disney bag. It was not clear why the defense introduced the Gatorade bottle as evidence in the Casey Anthony murder trial.

A witness for the defense testified that judging by the amount of root growth and leaves around the skull, the remains had only been there for two weeks. FBI forensics specialists tested the clothes in Casey Anthony's closet for signs of blood. They checked several articles of clothing that had stains, but they came up negative for blood. A pair of grey pants that Casey Anthony on June 16, 2008, the day Caylee is believed to have died, had been washed before they could be tested, the FBI agent told the court.
