Michelle Gaiser, 39, met Jeffrey Stern through his Houston-area law firm. Gaiser was an office manager for another local firm. Their affair lasted several years.

Michelle Gaiser promised Richard Gutierrez, a tow truck driver, $20,000 to set up the first attempt at murdering Yvonne Stern.

In the first attempt on Yvonne Stern's life on Feb 12, 2010, the Sterns' million-dollar home -- pictured here is the home's central staircase -- was sprayed with bullets. No one was injured.

Michelle Gaiser then approached James Lowery to make a hit on Yvonne Stern. Lowery received a used car from Gaiser and turned to career criminal Nhut Nguyen to carry out the murder.

Hitman Nhut Nguyen made the second attempt on Yvonne Stern's life on April 15, 2010. He rang her doorbell, smiled, and then fired on her at close range. He missed, and was ultimately found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Nguyen was sentenced to 45 years behind bars.

Yvonne Stern was in her Cadillac Escalade on May 5, 2010 when she was shot by a third hitman. The bullet shattered the car's window and passed through her stomach. She survived after spending eight days in the hospital.

Damian Flores was charged with shooting Yvonne Stern while she was in her car, allegedly for $15,000. Flores denied the charges and his trial ended with a hung jury. The Harris County, Texas District Attorney plans to retry Flores later this year.

Gaiser agreed to plead guilty to solicitation of capital murder last year for trying to have Yvonne Stern killed several times. In return for her plea and testimony, she will receive a maximum of 25 years in prison.

Prosecutors have charged that Jeffrey Stern was behind the plot to have his wife killed. Stern has denied the charges and Yvonne Stern stands by her husband, refusing to believe the allegations, saying he is only guilty of having an affair with a "fatal attraction."

The Harris County District Attorney will put Jeffrey Stern on trial next week for soliciting to have his wife murdered. As part of her plea deal, Jeffrey Stern's former mistress, Michelle Gaiser, has agreed to testify against him. Watch the full story on "20/20" Friday at 10 p.m. ET.
