Nobel-Winning Irish Poet Seamus Heaney died on Aug. 30, 2013. He published his first collection of poetry, "Death of a Naturalist" in the 1960s. He won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1995. "We cannot adequately express our profound sorrow at the loss of one of the world's greatest writers," Heaney's London publisher, Faber & Faber told the AP. "His impact on literary culture is immeasurable.."

Jazz vocalist Jane Harvey, who performed with Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman died Aug. 15, 2013 following a battle with cancer, according to The Associated Press. She was 88. Harvey's smooth vocals could be heard on songs like "You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me" and "Close as Pages in a Book." She also recorded "A Rainy Night in Rio" with Desi Arnaz.

Lisa Robin Kelly, best known for playing Laurie Forman on the sitcom "That '70s Show," died on Aug. 14, 2013 at age 43, her agent told ABC News station KABC in Los Angeles. The cause of death was unknown. After making appearances on "Married With Children" and "Charmed," she landed her biggest role, the older sister of Topher Grace's character, Eric Forman, on the Fox series, "That '70s Show."

Former "Bachelor" contestant Gia Allemand has died in an apparent suicide. "While in her residency in New Orleans on Monday night, Ms. Allemand was found by her boyfriend, NBA basketball player Ryan Anderson, following an apparent suicide attempt," her family said in a statement on Aug. 14, 2013. She was 29.

She also served as ambassador to the Vatican.

Musician JJ Cale, the architect of the Tulsa Sound, whose best-known songs became hits for Eric Clapton and Lynyrd Skynyrd died July 26, 2013. He was 74. He died of a heart attack at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, Calif. his manager told The Associated Press.

Helen Thomas, the first female member of the White House press corps and long-time columnist died on July 20, 2013. She was 92. Thomas' career ranged through ten presidencies, from Kennedy to Obama until her retirement in 2010. Bestowed with the unofficial title of "dean" of the White House Press corps, she was known for firing blunt and even confrontational questions.

Cory Monteith, who played the football-hero turned singing heartthrob Finn Hudson in the Fox hit show "Glee," was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room on July 13, 2013, authorities said. He was 31.

Ottavio Missoni, the head of the Italian fashion brand known by its iconic zigzag prints, died May 9, 2013 at age 92. The world-famous fashion designer and company's co-founder, called Tai by friends and family, "passed away serenely" in his home in Sumirago, Italy, surrounded by family, according to a statement issued by Missoni S.p.A., The Associated Press reported.

Russian oligarch and businessman Boris Berezovsky at his home in Egham, Surrey, Aug. 24, 2002, where he lived in exile. Berezovsky was found dead at his home March 23, 2013, police told the BBC. Berezovsky has been one of Russia's most wanted men since 2001, when he was indicted on a raft of charges.

Singer songwriter Jason Molina, who recorded under the names Songs:Ohia and the Magnolia Electric Co., died March 16, 2013, at age 39 at his home in Indianapolis. His label, Secretly Canadian, said he died of "natural causes." The prolific underground artist struggled with alcoholism for years.

"Ten Years After" guitarist and singer Alvin Lee died on March 6, 2013. He died of "unforseen complications following a routine surgical procedure," according to a statement on the guitarist's website. Lee was 68. Lee was best known for his powerful vocals and lead guitar playing on songs such as "I'd Love To Change The World" and "I'm Going Home."

Legendary pianist Van Cliburn died of bone cancer at age 78 on Feb. 27, 2013. Cliburn rocketed to fame at age 23 after winning the inaugural Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow at the height of the cold war in 1958. But he never lived up to his full promise, retiring from the concert stage in 1978 and returning in 1989, though rarely performing.

Dale Robertson, a star of television and movie Westerns during the genre's heyday, died on Feb. 26, 2013. He was 89. Robertson's niece, Nancy Robertson told The Associated Press that her uncle died following a brief illness. Dale Robertson appeared in films including the Joan Crawford vehicle "Flamingo Road" and as Jesse James in "Fighting Man of the Plains."

George Aratani, a Los Angeles businessman who donated millions to Japanese-American causes, died on Feb. 21, 2013. He was 95. He was the founder of Mikasa China and Kenwood Electronics.

Lou Meyers, the character actor who is best known for playing the feisty restaurant owner Mr. Vernon Gaines in the hit 1980s sitcom "A Different World," died at age 76 on Feb. 19, 2013. A spokeswoman for his non-profit organization told The Associated Press that Myers had been in and out of the hospital since Christmas 2012 and had collapsed recently.

Lavonne "Pepper" Paire-Davis, a star of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League in the 1940s and an inspiration for the movie "A League of Their Own," died on Feb. 2, 2013. She was 88.Her son William Davis told The Associated Press that Paire-Davis died of natural causes.
