Toni Braxton & Babyface Team Up, World Googles "Oarfish"

It's not always enough to know what's "trending." It kind of helps to know why. Welcome to The Social Climber, where we provide a quick primer on the people, places and things that are being feverishly searched and shared online -- and try to make sense of it all.

: Is that old fashion saying - if you wait long enough it'll come back in style - true for 1990s R&B music too?

If so, Toni Braxton and Babyface may soon become the two next biggest things in pop music. The pair of 90s hitmakers are releasing a new album of duets this December called "Love, Marriage, & Divorce."

Say what? A Christmas-time album release about divorce? Un-break the Social Climber's heart, Toni.

Allen Iverson Actually Retiring Now

Maybe this was just Allen Iverson's way of doing the ultimate fade-away of his career.

Or maybe he just got too old.

Iverson, the 11-time NBA All Star (that's what ESPN tells us) hasn't played a game of pro hoops since 2010, but has been saying since then that he would try to return to the NBA. According to a new report, however, it looks like Iverson might hang up his kicks for good. The basketball news website Slam Online reports that Iverson, 38, will announce his official retirement this week.

Sad news out of London this week: a University of Michigan student who was doing a summer internship at Bank of America in London was found dead in his dorm room.

The student, 21-year-old Moritz Erhardt, collapsed in his dorm room and was found unconscious by police, and later pronounced dead at the scene, according to the New York Times.

The Times reported that there have been unconfirmed reports on social media suggesting that Erhard had worked through the night on three consecutive nights for BoA, but the company declined to comment.

Wentworth Miller is not happy with Russia. The "Prison Break" star declined an invite to the St. Petersburg International Film Festival because of the country's attitudes toward gay people, he wrote in an open letter posted on GLAAD'S website Wednesday.

Oh, and also, Wentworth Miller is gay.

Despite saying in 2007 that he was straight and wanted to get married, Miller wrote in the letter that he could not "in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their right to live and love openly."

Take that, Russia.

A giant corpse of what may be an oarfish washed up on shore in Spain recently, causing the entire Internet to wonder, "what's an oarfish?"

So what's an oarfish? First of all, it's giant. It can reach 56 feet in length and looks like, well, an oar. It's found in temperate oceans but is rarely seen -- hey, wait, doesn't this sound a lot like another giant fish? Is the oarfish really the Loch Ness Monster? Has Social Climber unlocked a centuries old mystery?

Oh, sorry. Back to oarfish. Well, they're the longest bony fish alive, they're a member of the herring family, and you can eat them if you want but they're known for their unpleasantly "gelatinous consistency," according to the food review website Wikipedia. Oarfish!

Obama To Hit the Road on Bus Tour

From a lux mansion on Martha's Vineyard to the confines of a bus, President Barack Obama is back to reality today after his long summer vacation in New England. He'll hit the road for a two-day bus tour through New York and Pennsylvania to pitch a new rating system for colleges to help students identify affordable schools, according to ABC News' Abby Phillip.

That's all fine and good, Internet, but shouldn't we also be a bit more interested in that other important Obama? What's Sunny up to? Chasing Bo for a ball, apparently! Now there's some White House news.
