Is Nicole Scherzinger Getting Engaged? And Who is Nicole Scherzinger?

A rumor has dropped out of the sky that Nicole Scherzinger and Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton are getting engaged. Hamilton spoke to U.K.'s Sun newspaper, saying he plans to wed "hopefully in the near future … maybe before we get to six years."

Now, before you start speculating on possible wedding dates and locations, you might want to ask yourselves the same question we did: Who are these people?

A former member of the Pussycat Dolls, Scherzinger has U.K. and U.S. homes on the music competition series "The X-Factor" as a judge, and has found moderate success as a solo artist. Hamilton is a British Formula One racing driver, who is something of a God among sports fans across the pond.

Was the rumor planted by either Scherzinger or Hamilton? Or is it just another case of the tabloids having a field day? Hold onto your hats and watch closely.

Yikes: A Bay Area kayaker enjoying some fishing off of Pacifica State Beach got the scare of his life Tuesday when his tiny vessel was attacked by a 11-foot shark -- but the lucky fisherman was able to escape unscathed.

"Almost instantly, the shark came and it hit the bottom of the boat, lifted the boat up, and grabbed a hold of it and just started shaking the whole boat, and I'm just hanging on to this thing," Micah Flansburg told ABC station KGO. "I had my paddle on my lap, and my fishing pole and a bottle of home brew. The next thing I know, every single thing I had went flying in the air, it hit me so hard."

Flansburg, who was only 100 yards off of Pedro Point, held on for 10 terrifying seconds. Next time, he's gonna need a bigger boat.

Maria Sharapova Knocked Out at Wimbledon

We're just glad we weren't there to hear the piercing howl. Scream queen Maria Sharapova was the latest top player to get knocked out at The Championships at Wimbledon in an early round when she lost to 131st-ranked qualifier Michelle Larcher de Brito, 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday.

What's happening on the grass at SW19? Sharapova, the 2004 Wimbledon champ, follows top-seeded superstars in the men's game Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, who lost in the first and second rounds respectively.

Sharapova fell three times and asked for a medical timeout during her set, and some are saying the courts are too slippery. But Richard Lewis, chief executive of the All England Club, said the lawns were "as they should be." Hmmph.
