Two people were arrested Saturday after a woman climbed the flagpole outside the South Carolina Statehouse in Columbia and removed the Confederate flag.

The woman, identified as Brittany Newsome, was about halfway up the flagpole when an officer told her to come down, police said. She instead continued up to remove the flag before safely making her way down.

Newsome and a man who police said was helping her, James Tyson, were arrested by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Bureau of Protective Services. Both were charged with defacing a monument.

3. 6 Homes Evacuated in Florida Town Over Possible Sinkholes

Multiple depressions in a central Florida neighborhood possibly caused by repairs to a property that had sinkholes led to six homes being voluntarily evacuated.

The size of one of the depressions in Port Richey, Florida, on Friday was estimated to be about 10 to 20 feet in diameter and 15 feet deep, reported ABC station WFTS-TV in Tampa Bay, Florida.

“When you start to fill one sinkhole, it puts pressure and sometimes the bottom of the sinkhole falls out, which causes the underground water system, or cave, to pressurize,” said Pasco County Fire Rescue Chief Andrew Fossa. "When that pressure rises, it needs to go somewhere, so that will cause multiple other smaller sinkholes and some larger sinkholes.”

Montana resident David Peters got a bit of a jolt after his trip to Yellowstone National Park with his wife, his niece and a friend's young daughter.

As they were taking videos and pictures of some wandering bears on a highway in Montana, their car got up close and personal with one grizzly that jumped in front of the vehicle, tapping and sniffing along the windows.

Despite poor reviews, the coming-of-age story about a group of friends who have just graduated from Georgetown University and are grappling with the responsibilities of adulthood became an instant success with audiences and remains a cult classic today.
