Cops: Missing Marine Spotted at Kansas ATM

Had failed to report for duty in California along with wife, a fellow Marine.

ESCONDIDO, Calif., April 6, 2008 — -- Escondido, Calif., police say a newlywed Marinefrom Long Island who went missing on Monday has been spotted tryingto withdraw money from an ATM in Salina, Kan.

Police had been looking for 20-year-old Lance Cpl. MargaretMcMahon-Reid and her husband, 22-year-old Marine Pfc. George ReidII, after they were placed on "unauthorized absence" statusTuesday for failing to report to duty.

Escondido police Lt. Bob Benton says Reid was spotted at thecash machine. The case is now being handled by the Naval CriminalInvestigative Service.

Marine Lt. Neal Griffin says there were no signs of foul play inthe couple's Escondido home, rather it appears they packed theirthings and left.

Both joined the Marines 10 months ago and work as communicationequipment operators. Neither has been deployed in combat with theMarines.
