1. UVA Abduction Suspect Arrested in Texas

The suspect in the missing University of Virginia student case was arrested Wednesday in Galveston, Texas, authorities said.

Jesse Matthew had been wanted by Charlottesville, Virginia, police since Monday, first on a reckless driving charge before also being charged with abduction with intent to defile Hannah Graham, the sophomore who disappeared Sept. 13.

Matthew's extradition process "is currently underway," Charlottesville police chief Timothy Longo said at a news conference. He did not give any further details about why Matthew was in Galveston at the time of his arrest.

2. 9 Arrested in London Part of Investigations into 'Islamist Related Terrorism'

Police in London arrested nine men Thursday as part of ongoing investigations into "Islamist related terrorism," the city's Metropolitan Police Service said in a statement.

The men - ranging in age from 22 to 51 - are accused of being members of a banned group and encouraging terrorism.

Several homes and businesses in London were also being searched, police said.

The statement said that the arrests and searches "are not in response to any immediate public safety risk."

3. Woman Hit by California Officer Gets $1.5 Million

A woman punched repeatedly by a California Highway Patrol officer on the side of a freeway in an incident caught on video will receive $1.5 million under a settlement, and the officer has agreed to resign, The Associated Press reports.

CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow confirmed the settlement in an emailed statement and an attorney for Marlene Pinnock confirmed the dollar amount for The AP.

Wednesday's agreement came after a nine-hour mediation session in Los Angeles.

4. Doctor Who Helped Develop Rogaine Dies

A South Florida dermatologist credited with helping develop the first baldness remedy recognized by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has died, The Associated Press reports. He was 80.

Dr. Guinter Kahn's daughter Michelle said her father died Sept. 17 at a Miami hospice. His health had been declining since a stroke eight years ago.

Kahn's name was added to the patent for minoxidil in 1986 after a 15-year legal struggle with Upjohn Co. Minoxidil is the active ingredient in Rogaine.

5. Apple Creates Workaround After iOS 8 Update Problems

Apple has created a workaround for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users who lost "cellular service and Touch ID functionality" after installing an update to iOS 8.

The company said in a statement Thursday affected users could reinstall iOS 8 using iTunes. The problems forced Apple to pull the latest version of its operating software Wednesday.

"We apologize for the great inconvenience experienced by users, and are working around the clock to prepare iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue, and will release it as soon as it is ready in the next few days,” read the statement.
