It was a serious accident inside the Hanford nuclear reservation the Washington State facility which -- plutonium for the US nuclear weapons arsenal. One man 64 year old Harold McCloskey happened to be in the room when that small box for handling nuclear material exploded. He was exposed to the highest dose of radioactive ever -- and ever recorded. Estimated to be 500 times the -- -- -- limit. McCloskey -- spent a year in isolation inside it decontamination facility before being cleared to return home. He died in 1987 after years of era ill health. Meantime the side of the accident nicknamed the McCloskey room has remained largely off limits until now.
