— -- A teen boy armed with a pistol was taken into custody after holding students and a teacher hostage at a West Virginia high school today, police said.

The 14-year-old, who was not named, held "numerous students" and a teacher hostage in a classroom at Philip Barbour High School in Philippi, the West Virginia State Police said. The school was placed on lockdown.

All other students were evacuated and sent home, police said.

"After initial negotiations, the suspect agreed to release all of the hostages," the police said. Then, "after further negotiations, the suspect put the gun down and surrendered to law enforcement without further incident," police said.

No injuries were reported, according to police.

The 14-year-old was taken to a hospital. His possible motive is under investigation, police said.
