ABCNEWS' Anderson Cooper

--> -- Anderson Cooper was named an anchor of the ABCNEWS’ live, interactive overnight news and interview program, World News Now, in September 1999.

World News Now airs Monday-Friday between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 a.m., on the ABC Television Network and is streamed live from 2:00 to 3:30 a.m., ET, on ABCNEWS.com. In addition, he continues to provide reports for World News Tonight and 20/20.

Before this, Cooper was a New York-based correspondent for ABCNEWS, reporting primarily for World News Saturday/Sunday.

Cooper joined ABC from Channel One News, where he spent the prior three years as a reporter/producer. During that time, Cooper served as chief foreign correspondent, reporting and producing stories from such countries as Rwanda, Somalia, Bosnia, Iran, South Africa, Russia, Vietnam and Israel. Cooper also reported domestic stories which were broadcast over the Channel One News school television network and seen in 12,000 classrooms nationwide.

Cooper has won numerous awards for his work, including an Emmy for his coverage of the funeral of Princess Diana; a Silver Plaque from the Chicago International Film Festival for his report from Sarajevo on the Bosnian civil war; a Bronze Telly from the 14th Annual Telly Awards for his coverage of the Somalian civil war; and a Bronze Award from the National Educational Film and Video Festival for a report on political Islam.

Cooper graduated from Yale University in 1989 with a B.A. in political science. In 1992, Cooper spent five months at the University of Hanoi studying Vietnamese.
