And the olympic games are still 24 days away. But there's been an upset in the world of figure skating. The girl who had a nearly flawless skate. And the one who didn't but somehow won anyway. The questions from abc's linsey davis. Reporter: Grace, under fire. At the u.S. Figure skating championships over the weekend. Double axel into triple toe. Reporter:20-year-old mirai nagasu nailing it. While her competition for a spot on the u.S. Olympic team, ashley wagner, got more oohs that aaahs as she fell not once but twice. So, it was somewhat of a surprise when fourth place finisher wagner was told she'd made one of the coveted three slots on the u.S. Olympic figure skating team, while nagasu, who skated better this weekend, was not. I fell to my knees. And I started crying. Reporter: Unlike track and field, there's no stopwatch on skating. Figure skating can look over the past year and decide, who is the best we want to send over there. No matter who they pick, someone was going to go home very, very unhappy. Reporter: U.S. Figure skating says wagner got the top credentials of any of our female athletes. And while nagasu did inquire about the appeal process, said she is disappointed but respects the decision. For one skater, the thrill of victory short-lived. Linsey davis, abc news, new york.
