Transcript for Civil War in Syria Raging for More Than 1,000 Days
Thank you. We move onto to syria and an unprecedented look inside that civil war from the families living through the terror. They have documented it for abc news and tonight the numbers here, the war raging for more than 1,000 days now, more than 10,000 lives lost. An inside look now all part of an abc news special series called caught in the cross fire. Tonight the villagers desperate to keep their government together, attacked they say by rebels with linked to al qaeda in a country with so many battle lines. Terry moran with a portrait you haven't seen. Reporter:IRST CAME THE Rockets. Then the snipers. Proudly posted on youtube, these difficult images were filmed by the jihadist fighters themselves. More than 10 villages were under siege that morning and the survivors tell us the story. Everyone rushed to protect their wives and their children. My husband yelled, close the door and hide. Reporter: Facing little resistance they quickly owned the streets and attacked with abandon. A few of the villagers were armed, but they were outnumbered and outgunned. I have a gun, but when the bullets run out, it's just a stick. They blocked the street off so nobody could pass. Right when I stopped I saw people in front of me being killed. I got everybody out of the car. That was when my baby son was shot in the head. What could a child have possibly done to deserve to die. Reporter: His son did live. His other son was also wounded and both are left with permanent reminders of the vicious attack. We didn't bury one, two or three. There are mass graves and there are still people missing. Is there anything more evil than what they did to us? Reporter: Terry moran, abc news. He will have much more of our special caught in the fire cross right here on "nightline."
