We will head out west where hurricanes are almost unheard of but tonight they are recovering from hurricane force winds a powerful windstorm that cut through neighborhoods like a knife. It has left behind a forests of toppled trees and snarled power lines and ABC's David Wright is one of the hardest hit town. Temple City southeast of Pasadena was one of the small towns hardest hit by this storm. Three out of four people here won't have power until Monday. Here's why. Dozens of power -- today -- at ninety degree angles snapped in half. Piece of wonderful just dangles from a high voltage lines with work crews underneath. I never ever in a millionaires living here all my life pushing 45 years I never thought I would see anything like this. 911 logged more than 500 calls -- a day. That's apparently I didn't really that what do you buy it. The Santa Ana winds have died down for now giving shell shocked residents a chance to start the massive cleanup. More than 300 big trees fell in LA county alone. Today county inmates in Orange jumpsuits were among the work group. And we have meant -- we got bobcats -- -- Chain -- -- you know loves them. Working around the clock power company workers have restored power to more than half those who lost it. But nearly 100000. Homes are still without electricity. It may be. The worst. Wind event in a generation. Certainly in the last. Ten or fifteen years. In parts of Utah and Colorado the winds clocked more than a 150 miles per hour. The equivalent of a category four hurricane to competing pressure systems over the southwest essentially acted plagued years. Pushing the wind into the San Gabriel Mountains where it funnels through narrow passes. This is a storm Californians won't soon forget that waves and some good. In Lake Tahoe it's usually come that this week -- up. There's -- going to be a pretty good indication of the power of this storm. It took down this huge tree ripping out half the front lawn the tree barely missed the house but skewered the car that didn't used to be a convertible. One dramatic example among many Diane. Huge mess to clean up.
