Transcript for Sinkhole Swallows a Huge Section of a Residential Street
No snow for new year's eve? Reporter: Looks good right now. All right, rob. Let's turn to that huge sink hole taking over a residential street. Officials scrambling to figure out what caused it. And a newspaper delivery person, the one who is sounding the alarm. The latest now with Linzie Janis in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Reporter: Tonight, authorities scrambling to find out what caused this 12-foot wide sinkhole in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The street is cracked, and there is a hissing sound, a natural gas odor also. Reporter: At 3:30 this morning, a 911 call reporting a possible gas leak. Give me a full dispatch to this location. I have a crater starting. Reporter: Dozens of people evacuating in the middle of the night. A gas worker who fell into the hole sent to the hospital for minor injuries. So, the street literally opened up beneath him? It opened up beneath him. And he kept himself from falling completely in the hole but was injured in the process of falling in the hole. Reporter: In Michigan, crews are working around the clock to repair this sinkhole, and save homes. The sinkhole -- 250 feet long and 100 feet wide -- opened up Saturday after a sewer pipe collapsed. Authorities say it could be weeks before residents can return home. Here in Pennsylvania, all but three families have been allowed into their homes, and gas workers are still here, trying to fix that pipe. Tom? Linzie, thank you.
