— -- 1. Joe Biden Courts Firefighters Union With 2016 Decision Expected

Vice President Joe Biden has the "very likely" support of the nation's largest union of firefighters should he decide to enter the 2016 presidential race, a top union official tells ABC News.

Biden placed a personal call to Harold Schaitberger, president of the International Association of Firefighters, early Friday morning to discuss his potential candidacy and a strategy to win, Schaitberger said.

News of the call was first reported by the Washington Post.

"You certainly came away with the view and feeling that he is moving toward seriously making a decision," Schaitberger said. He declined to speculate on timing of a decision or potential announcement.

2. Washington DC Police Look for Ways to Connect With City Youth

As many cities across the country grapple with a surge of gun violence and increasingly strained relations between law enforcement and urban communities, police in the nation's capital are hoping they have found a way to help overcome the challenges.

Each season for the past year, the city's Youth Creating Change program has been connecting more than two dozen inner-city kids with a team of police officers and a top aide from the mayor's office, hoping to transform the way those kids think about police -- and themselves.

For more than three months this summer, ABC News followed one group as they spent more and more time with officers Kenneth Casey and Tyron Wallace, along with John Mein, who heads community outreach for the city government.

3. Southern California Recovers From Mud Mess Left By Storms

Cleanup was under way this weekend from the major mudslides due to flash flooding and thunderstorms in a section of Southern California that trapped hundreds of cars on a highway.

However, more showers are in the forecast, which could hamper relief efforts in Los Angeles County's Antelope Valley, although the worst of the storms appeared to be over.

Vehicles were stuck on State Route 58, about 30 miles east of Bakersfield, on Friday, California Highway Patrol officials said.

5. Tracy Morgan Returns to 'Saturday Night Live' for First Time Since Car Crash

Tracy Morgan returned to "Saturday Night Live" for the first time since a car crash last year left him in a coma.

A cast member on the comedy sketch program from 1996 to 2006, Morgan addressed the crash in his opening monologue Saturday night.

"I was in a terrible car accident a year ago," he said. "It was awful. But it also showed me how much love and support I have in this world."

He even jokingly referred to the aftermath of the crash.

"People were wondering, 'Can he speak? Does he have 100 percent mental capacity?'" he said. "But the truth is -- I never did. I might actually be a few points higher now."
