Behind the Scenes of 'GMA': Inside the Control Room

On the first day of a new television season, a big show this morning. Demi Lovato‘s team was here in the early morning hours setting up for her performance to kick off our Fall Concert Series while her fans lined up outside in Times Square. Lots of talk over who won Emmys (and who on our morning staff stayed up late enough to watch). Lara Spencer was up in the middle of the night in LA to bring us the latest on who won what and who scored and sunk in the fashion sweepstakes on TV’s biggest evening. What a night it was for “Modern Family” — ABC’s hit comedy cleaned up at the Emmys, and that Charlie Sheen comeback moment had everyone talking.

How we stacked our show kept changing from 5 to 7 a.m. — except for our two lead stories. We led with breaking news right at the top on the tragic aftermath of the nation’s deadliest air racing disaster ever. The story’s even updating now as I write this that a 10 th person has died as a result of Friday’s fatal crash. Plus, a tough sell this morning for President Obama and his new plan to tax the rich and take trillions off the deficit. Jake Tapper went live from White House with the latest. All that and the bombshell book from Ron Suskind is sending shockwaves through the White House.

Excitement was building throughout the show for Demi Lovato’s big performance. In the control room, we could actually track how energized people were as the hashtag #GMADemi was trending in the top five topics nationwide on Twitter for over three hours.  First, she sat down with Robin Roberts before hitting our the stage on our new set with hit “Skyscraper”!

Our entire GMA staff is getting ready to watch “ Dancing With the Stars” tonight.  Join the GMA Twitter party by using the hashtag #GMADancing. Tune in tomorrow for our highlights and get the play by play from past “DWTS” champ Donny Osmond.
