Dec. 7: Pearl Harbor Day

1941 Attack on Pearl Harbor

Japanese bomber planes launched a major attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor.  More than 2,000 Americans were killed in the raid, and five of the eight American battleships stationed there were destroyed.  The attack on Pearl Harbor is what drew the U.S. into World War II.  Video shows a clip from the 50th anniversary memorial service at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1991.  Dec. 7, 2011 marks 70 years after the attack.
