ABC's Martha Raddatz Named Moderator for Vice Presidential Debate on October 11

The Commission on Presidential Debates announced today that ABC News senior foreign affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz will be moderating the Vice Presidential Debate this fall between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan. ABC News President Ben Sherwood sent the following note to the news division congratulating Martha:

I am thrilled to let you know that the Commission on Presidential Debates has asked ABC's Martha Raddatz to moderate one of four nationally televised debates this fall. Martha will moderate the Vice Presidential Debate between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan on October 11th in Danville, Kentucky.

The Commission's four debates will air on all networks and cable news stations, public television and radio, commercial radio, and will be live-streamed online. Since 1988, the Commission has sponsored the only sanctioned debates; they are each watched by many millions of Americans; and they usually deliver some of the most memorable moments of the campaign.

Martha was chosen by the Commission's co-chairs Michael McCurry and Frank Fahrenkopf. Her selection is a great tribute to her toughness, fairness, reporting skills, political knowledge, and many talents as a fearless interviewer and journalist.

Please join me in congratulating Martha.
