Recipes for National Oatmeal Cookie Day

Americans have loved the oatmeal cookie ever since it first made its appearance in the late 1800s.  Out of the 2 million cookies Americans eat each year, oatmeal cookies were the second most popular cookie after chocolate chip.

The hearty oatmeal dough freezes well and was originally dubbed a health food when it was created.  The cookies can be made with a variety of oats, such as  steel cut or old-fashioned.
