The title has been announced for first Lady Michelle Obama’s book about the White House garden. “American Grown: How the White House Kitchen Garden Inspires Families, Schools, and Communities” is scheduled to hit bookshelves April 10, 2012.

“Through telling the story of the White House kitchen garden, Mrs. Obama will explore in ‘American Grown’ how increased access to healthy, affordable food can promote better eating habits and improve health of families and communities across America,” according to the publisher.

The cover, which was also unveiled today, shows Obama holding a basket of vegetables from the garden.

“American Grown” will also include family recipes from the first lady and tips for starting your own garden. “The book will be inspirational and instructive and will provide ideas and resources for readers to get involved in the movement to create community, school and urban gardens, support local farmers’ markets, and make small lifestyle changes to achieve big health results,” according to Crown publishing.

The book, Obama’s first, will be available in print and digital editions. The first lady did not take any advance for the project, which was first announced in March, and all proceeds will be donated to charity.
