Love at the White House: Obamas' Valentine's Date, Daughter Dating?

DECATUR, Ga. - On this Valentine's Day, it's date night at the White House. And, apparently, President and Mrs. Obama aren't the only ones in the family with a special sweetheart.

On a stop here to push his education agenda, President Obama hinted that one of his daughters - likely the eldest, 14-year-old Malia - is officially dating.

"I do have to warn the parents who are here, who still have young kids, they grow up to be, like five feet 10 inches. And even if they're still nice to you, they basically don't have a lot of time for you during the weekends," he told the crowd. "They have sleepovers and dates. So all that early investment just leaves them to go away."

A White House official declined to comment on or clarify the president's remark. Both the president and first lady have discussed in recent interviews the possibility of their girls' dating in the future but neither has confirmed a relationship out of a desire for privacy.

The president made the comment in Decatur during remarks on his plan, unveiled in the State of the Union, for universal access to pre-K education programs to boost kids' life and academic skills.

"The size of your paycheck, though, shouldn't determine your child's future. So let's fix this," he said. "Let's make it a national priority to give every child access to a high-quality early education. Let's give our kids that chance."

Obama didn't linger long after the midday speech, returning to Washington where he said he plans a romantic evening with his wife.

"I can't imagine a more romantic way to spend Valentine's Day than with all of you, with all the press here," Obama joked. "Actually, Michelle says hello. She made me promise to get back in time for our date tonight. That's important."

"I've already got a gift, got the flowers," he said. "I was telling folks, the flowers are a little easier, though, because I got this rose garden. A lot of people, you know, keeping flowers around."
