Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson Rekindling Their Romance?

Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew made headlines in 1986 with a lavish royal wedding and again a decade later with an equally headline-making divorce.

Now the ex-couple are in the headlines once again thanks to British media reports that they are rekindling their romance.

"She's always saying, 'He's my best friend. Andrew is my best friend.' And I think he has remained her best friend," Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, told ABC News.

Speculation about a rekindled romance was flamed by the news that Ferguson, 53, joined Andrew, also 53, and their daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, for the weekend at Balmoral, the Queen's Scottish retreat, earlier this month.

The visit marked the first time that Ferguson, who was stripped of her "royal highness title" when she and Andrew divorced, has been invited to the royal family's vacation home since 1992 when she found herself engulfed in the first of multiple scandals.

In May 2010 Ferguson was caught on camera accepting money in exchange for a promise of business access to Prince Andrew for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

After the incident occurred, she issued a statement apologizing for causing embarrassment and a "serious lapse in judgment" and said Andrew "was not aware or involved in any of the discussions that occurred."

In 2011, the royal family excluded Ferguson from attending the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey.

"I wanted to be there with my girls and … to be getting them dressed and to go as a family," Ferguson told Oprah Winfrey in May 2011. "And also it was so hard because the last bride up that aisle was me."

While friends tell the UK's Telegraph it is "only a matter of time" until Ferguson walks up the aisle again with Prince Andrew, royal experts say there is one major obstacle in their way.

"Nothing is going to happen as long as Prince Philip is alive," said Seward. "Prince Philip actively dislikes Fergie and has said so publicly."

Since their divorce, the couple remained friends and, by all appearances, were successful co-parents of their two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, both in their 20s.

"We're a wonderful unit. We still live together," Ferguson told "GMA" in June 2011 of her relationship with her ex at the time.
