The normally private Beyoncé is opening up about the birth of her daughter last January and says it was her connection to Blue Ivy that helped her through labor.

"We were talking. I know it sounds crazy, but I felt a communication," the 32-year-old singer told the November issue of Marie Claire Australia.

She said imagining what her daughter was going through helped the singer get through the pain of labor.

"I felt like when I was having contractions, I envisioned my child pushing through a very heavy door," Beyoncé told the magazine. "And I imagined this tiny infant doing all the work, so I couldn't think about my own pain."

Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z welcomed their first child in January, 2012, but the pop star said she started getting the maternal instinct even before then.

"I felt very maternal around eight months," she told Marie Claire. "And I thought I couldn't become any more until I saw the baby…But it happened during my labor because I had a very strong connection with my child."

The singer maintains that connection during her worldwide tour and other engagements by bringing Blue Ivy along.

"She's my road dog," Beyoncé told Marie Claire. "She's my homey, my best friend."

Returning to the spotlight since becoming a mother hasn't gotten any easier.

"I'm still completely nervous. I still feel pressure," she said.

Though she will read articles about herself while surfing the Internet, she makes a point not to read the comments. "Don't scroll down!" Beyoncé told Marie Claire with a laugh. "You're definitely going to get your feelings hurt."
