After slamming Fendi for rejecting his leather jogging pant idea in a September interview with BBC's Radio 1, Kanye West is back with another attack on the fashion industry. This time, the "Yeezus" rapper is targeting luxury designer Louis Vuitton. West stopped by New York's 92.3 NOW on Monday (Nov 25) to voice his frustration with the brand.
During the interview, West reiterated feelings of being held back by leaders in the fashion industry citing a feud with Louis Vuitton Vice President Yves Carcelle.
"While I was in Paris I wanted to meet the head of Louis Vuitton and he said, 'I don't understand why we need to meet with you?'" West recalled. "I said, 'Let me explain to you why you need to meet with me.'"
"'Everybody in New York City right now, don't buy any Louis Vuitton until after January. Now do you want to meet with me?'" he added. "Influence. They think that I don't realize my power. They want to marginalize me."
West recounted a similar encounter with executives at Nike, stating that the shoe brand refused to offer him royalties for his Yeezus collection because he was not a professional athlete.
"End of the day, it's cool to be cool," he said. "But people lining up for the Yeezys and daddy not getting paid ain't gonna mean nothing to North ten years from now."
In spite of this rejection, the 36-year-old artist is not discouraged. In a separate interview with Hot 97's Angie Martinez, West announced he will be parting ways with Nike in favor of a new deal with famed athletic brand Adidas, for which he has high hopes.
"I am going to be the Tupac of product," he said. "I'm going to be the first hip-hop designer and because of that I'm going to be bigger than Walmart."
