quicklist: title: Donna Brazile: Mitt Romney's Very Bad Week

text: During this week's roundtable discussion, I'm hopeful that some of my panel mates will share some of their insights about Governor Mitt Romney's no good, very bad week.

Mr. Romney began this week with continued denials that he had shipped jobs overseas, suggesting instead that he left Bain Capital in 1999, before this practice began.

Around mid-week, it started to be a bit harder to take Mr. Romney at his word. Documents from the Securities and Exchange Commission started cropping up showing that, as late as 2002, Romney was listed as president and CEO of Bain Capital. This is well into the period when Bain was investing in outsourcing companies at a rapid clip.

With the waters getting muddier and muddier, Romney's campaign swore up and down on Friday that he had left Bain officially in 1999 and that his retention of company titles was just a formality.

Maybe my colleagues on the panel can help me answer this question: Which is the worst possible state of affairs? Is it that Mitt Romney hasn't been truthful with the American people about when he left Bain and that he was still really in charge as late as 2002? Is it that he misled on his SEC documents, claiming he was still in charge when he really wasn't? Or a truth somewhere in between: that he was still collecting a six figure salary for a job he wasn't doing?

Oh yeah, and when is he going to release those other tax returns?
