After weeks of intense voting, we have a winner in the ABC News "Best Oscar Movie From The Past 64 Years Bracket Challenge" sponsored by JCPenney.
And the winner is ... "Forrest Gump," the gripping, timeless classic that features Tom Hanks playing a man who might not have the highest I.Q., but possesses the biggest heart. The 1994 movie follows this man's quest to be united with his true love Jenny.
The film was chosen after six rounds of voting via an interactive bracket that began with 64 worthy Oscar-winning films. "Titanic," "Ben Hur" and "Platoon" were all eliminated by voters, while "Forrest Gump" and "The Godfather" fought hard to reach the final.
In an astounding upset, "Gump" garnered 54.8 percent of the vote against "The Godfather."
"Gump" had previously knocked off Hollywood classics like "Braveheart" and "Rain Man" on its way to the coveted honor.
Overall, nearly 529,000 votes were cast over the six rounds.
For this year's Oscar winners, make sure to tune into the 86th annual Academy Awards, which kick off Sunday at 7 p.m., EST on ABC.
