Yoani Sanchez: Without Chavez, Chavismo Will Not Last

— -- During an interview with Univision's Jorge Ramos, Cuban dissident blogger Yoani Sanchez said that without Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's ruling party will crumble.
"These personalistic regimes are not inheritable," said Sanchez from Miami during her on-going media tour.

Chavez lost his battle with cancer in March and appointed Nicolas Maduro as his successor. But, in spite of his lead in the polls, skeptics doubt that he'll be able to retain power, mainly because he's not Chavez. He faces Henrique Capriles in the April 14 presidential elections.
During the interview with Ramos, Sanchez also mentioned that through her tour, which started last February, she's been able to gain perspective about the situation in Cuba and the absurdity of living on the island.
"I live in a medieval island, because the government behaves like a feudal lord that decides everything from the education your children will get to whether or not the wall will open to let you out," Sanchez said.
From Miami, Yoani Sanchez will continue the last leg of her tour to Peru, then Europe, before she returns to Cuba in May.
Asked whether she's afraid to return to the island she says: "Of course I'm afraid of retaliation, but I think the best way to protect myself is to keep talking. But there will be retaliation."
