Dec. 29, 2007 Special to ABCNEWS.com — -- BURLINGAME, CALIF. - Don't have a date yet for New Year's Eve? Don't worry.

Just jump online and scroll through the hundreds of dating and personals sites that can hook you up with arm-candy for that big end-of-the-year bash. No matter where around the world you are during the holidays, there are lots of country-specific dating sites. And many U.S.-based sites now serve the love-lorn all over the world.

Match.com, Yahoo! Personals and MSN Dating & Personals are some of the most heavily trafficked sites globally. But China's QQ.com Love ranks highest in Asia, Meetic and be2 are No. 1 and 2 in Europe and Amigos.com is second only to MSN in Latin America, according to comScore.

"The stigma of online dating has completely evaporated," said Egon Smola, general manager of Yahoo! Personals. "So many people have told me they've met someone online."

For every generic dating site, there's one tailored to specific groups or interests. Spark Networks specializes in such sites. The Beverly Hills, Calif., company operates 30 special-interest dating sites, including the popular JDate.com for Jewish singles, BlackSingles.com and ChristianMingle.com.

True.com's niche is safety in online dating. The Dallas-based site screens members and boots off those with criminal backgrounds. "I can guarantee criminals will be sorry if they get into our site," said Chief Executive Herb Vest. "We turn them in to the Feds and we go to the trouble of turning them in to their state parole boards. We also sue some who lied about their criminal background." True.com also kicks out married folks posing as singles.

Most dating sites aren't doing special promotions for New Year's Eve because traffic typically increases during the holidays anyway. "As you get closer to the end of the year, people re-examine their lives," said Yahoo! spokesman Jason Khoury. "They're going to determine if they're in the right relationship. It's make or break time."
