— -- Many companies are offering "freebies" to reward American laborers and their hard work this Labor Day weekend.

Of course, many of these deals aim to make a buck by bringing customers in their stores. Before you show up at their doors, make sure you read the fine print and note limitations and restrictions at the business near you. If you're careful, you could score a decent deal on items like food and back-to-school supplies.

Regina Conway, consumer expert with SlickDeals, said Labor Day is an end-of-season sale, which is why summer items will be slashed dramatically.

"It's a good time to stock up on summer clothing, grills and grilling accessories," she said, noting that that some stores keep about 20 percent of their grill inventory throughout the year, so prices may go down later in the season. But buying a grill now allows you to tap into a greater inventory and still enjoy the benefits of the grill for the remainder of the season, she said.

Other deals, but not necessarily freebies, include outdoor items, hiking equipment and home improvement.

"We typically don't see a ton of great toy discounts at this time as those start cropping up closer to the holiday season," she said. "And hold off on buying larger consumer electronics until the Black Friday time frame."

Here are some Labor Day weekend freebies pulled together with the help of BeFrugal.com and SlickDeals:

Arby's

Get a free slider with the purchase of any sandwich, with a printed coupon, through Tuesday.

AAA

In Florida, Georgia and Tennessee, AAA is offering free tows home through 6 a.m. Tuesday to take the vehicle and driver home. You do not need to be a AAA member to get a tow, but this should be used as a last resort, according to AAA, because this "Tow to Go" program is intended to get intoxicated off the road. The program tows within 10 miles.

Casper

Casper, the direct-to-consumer online mattress start-up, is offering a cheeky promotion over Labor Day weekend related to a charity event in five cities. Customers who buy a mattress get a free origami paper sailboat as part of the company's Labor Day Sail in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Toronto on Monday. All ticket sales ($30 each) go to the nonprofit group charity: water.

"Enjoy an open bar, unbeatable views, and of course, a Casper to lounge on," the Casper website states.
