— -- Alice Gomstyn is a business reporter with ABC News. Since joining ABC News in January 2008, Gomstyn has reported a variety of stories on the economy, Wall Street and everyday issues facing the American consumer, including the housing and mortgage crisis, the demise of major brokerage firms, the proliferation of Ponzi and affinity fraud schemes, the rise of payday lending and the consequences of high gas prices.
She has also covered myriad industries and reported on financial issues that are off the beaten path such as the disappearance of cocoa in some of the nation's favorite "chocolate" treats, the business of high-end prostitution (following the Eliot Spitzer scandal) and the impact of flooding in the Midwest on the construction industry.
Gomstyn began her career at newspapers, working as an education reporter and blogger at The Journal News in New York and as a municipal reporter at The Providence Journal in Rhode Island, where she was honored with two awards for feature and profile writing from the Rhode Island Press Association. Her work has also appeared in The Boston Globe and The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Gomstyn graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College with a bachelor's degree in government.
