March 12 -- If you're a senior and you need help filling out your tax return, you might want to contact the American Association for Retired Persons.

AARP's tax aid program is and has been for many years the largest single participant in the tax counseling for the elderly program. It is certainly the most extensive one. It can help you if you are a senior citizen looking for assistance.

Go to the organization's Web site at http://www.aarp.org/. It will help you to target in on where a volunteer program might be in your community.

Don Roberts of the Internal Revenue Service says there are other volunteer programs to help seniors, low-income taxpayers, students or anyone else. Some of these volunteer programs can help you file electronically, so you can get your refund faster.

Check the bulletin boards at your local library, school, or grocery stores. And if that doesn't work, you can always try the IRS itself.

"Contact the Internal Revenue Service at our toll-free information line (1-800-829-1040)," says Roberts. "We can help you to find if there's a volunteer program in your area."
