As far as Video Music Awards shows go, Thursday night's was fairly tame. No speech interruptions. No meat dress. No thinly veiled pregnancy announcements. But this being the most off-the-wall awards ceremony of the year, there were highlights, none more brilliant than Olympic gold medal winner Gabby Douglas cartwheeling across the VMA stage during Alicia Keys and Nicki Minaj's performance of "Girl on Fire."

Click through for six more memorable moments from the 2012 MTV VMAs, as well as a full list of the night's winners.

Rihanna Wins Best Video of the Year ...

... for "We Found Love," one of the songs she performed at the start of Thursday's VMAs. She was elegantly poised accepting the Moonman trophy, while host Kevin Hart screamed like a child.

Taylor Swift Sings 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together'

Swift dressed up as a nautical pinup for her first live TV performance of her latest hit single. Men of the world, if you weren't scared off by "Dear John," consider this your cue to never, ever break this lady's heart.

Frank Ocean Sings 'Thinking About You'

The hip-hop singer's performance of "Thinking About You" was awesomely minimalistic in the midst of the VMA's usual acrobatics. (We're talking about you, Pink, though great job in that harness.) It was just him, a guitar, a fire-like display and a mic. Old school perfection.

Kevin Hart Calls Out Kristen Stewart

In his opening monologue, Hart dispensed advice to a variety of people, from Drake to Snooki (don't paint the baby orange) to Stewart, who had a fling with her "Snow White and the Huntsman" director. "If she did [have an affair], so what?," he said. "It's over. Move on!" She wasn't there to absorb Hart's wisdom, but we're sure her ex, Robert Pattinson, appreciated hearing that before he went on stage.

You usually need a CGI team to get special effects like this. For the record, Hart is 5-foot-2. Howard, the NBA player, is 6-foot-11.
