'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Director Joss Whedon Explains Why He Quit Twitter
The "Avengers: Age of Ultron" director addresses the rumors.
— -- "Avengers: Age of Ultron" director Joss Whedon quit Twitter earlier this week, causing many to wonder why.
Ultimately, he left social media for creative reasons.
"I just thought, 'Wait a minute, if I’m going to start writing again, I have to go to the quiet place,'" he told Buzzfeed News.
"And this is the least quiet place I’ve ever been in my life. ... It’s like taking the bar exam at Coachella," he said. "It’s like, 'Um, I really need to concentrate on this! Guys! Can you all just ... I have to ... It’s super important for my law!"
Speculation had been circulating online for days about why Whedon may have left the social media site, including a theory that people were angry over his handling of Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow character, a notion he dismissed as "horses***."
"I saw a lot of people say, 'Well, the social justice warriors destroyed one of their own!' It’s like, Nope. That didn’t happen," he told Buzzfeed News.
Whedon was unsure of whether he'll rejoin Twitter some time in the future.
"I’m sure I’d consider it at some point. It’s a lot of fun. I had a great time," he said. "[But] I think the articles that I found, I can find elsewhere."
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" opened last weekend, earning $191 million, the second-best debut of all time at the domestic box office.
