Colbert calls out Roy Moore for voting 'in the creepiest way possible'

Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore arrived to the voting polls on horseback.

— -- The results of Alabama's senatorial runoff weren't yet known when the late-night shows recorded, but candidate Roy Moore provided plenty of early fodder by arriving to his polling place on horseback, wearing a cowboy hat and blue jeans.

“Here's a bit of an eyebrow raiser: The horse's name is Sassy. Well, I mean, that is a lovely name for a magazine targeted at teenage girls,” Stephen Colbert, host of “The Late Show,” said. “Apparently, riding to the polls on horseback is a family tradition. Oh, Roy Moore loves traditions from the 1800s, like child brides and the Dred Scott decision.

“I just want to say to Roy Moore, ‘Hello you and the horse you rode in on,’” he added, placing emphasis on the word hello.

Moore's opponent, Doug Jones, was projected as the winner of Tuesday's election by a narrow margin -- an historic victory by the Democrat.

Colbert also tweeted about the incident before the results came in, saying, "It's TBD who won the special election in Alabama, but it's not TBD whether Roy Moore voted in the creepiest way possible.”

“Late Night” host Seth Meyers got in on the joke too, referring to both Moore and the horse as "animals" that are banned from the mall.

“Roy Moore rode on horseback today to his polling place to vote in the special election. Look at that. What a majestic picture of two animals not allowed in the mall,” Meyers joked. “Because when Roy Moore is choosing a mode of transportation, he always asks himself, 'What do 14-year-old girls like?'"
