Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell's Daughter's Name Started Out a Joke
A friend made a text quip and next thing you know...
Jan. 15, 2015— -- Dax Shepard says the name of his new daughter, Delta, started out as a joke.
The actor, who welcomed a second girl with wife Kristen Bell last month, explained during an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that airs today how he and his wife came up with the unusual moniker.
"It was a joke because our first daughter’s name is Lincoln, which is very masculine," he explained. "A friend of mine teasingly texted me, 'Oh great, what’s this one gonna be? Navy SEAL? Delta Force? Green Beret?'"
Next thing he knew, "I was reading this text out loud to Kristen and I said, 'Oh, Steve said, "What if we named her Delta?" Delta! Delta Bell Shepard! That’s it!' And that’s it."
Delta was born Dec. 19, after Bell was in labor for 33 hours and needed a last-minute C-section, Shepard told DeGeneres. Despite that, both mom and baby have already bounced back.
"I have a healthy baby so everything’s great," he said. "[Kristen]’s a super healer because she never smoked, never drank. Eats perfect. She’s like Wolverine! You cut her and as the knife’s going through, it’s sealing. If those kids came out of me, I don’t know what they’d look like. I’d still be in the hospital probably."
The couple, who married last October, are already parents to 21-month-old daughter Lincoln, who was born March 2013.
