— -- The legendary George Lucas is in a position that he's never been in with regards to his iconic franchise "Star Wars" -- he's a fan.

After Page Six ran a story Monday revealing that Lucas had not seen the new trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," a rep for LucasFilms talked to the Hollywood icon as to why.

"It is true — he has not seen the trailer," the rep said. "He ideally would love not to see any footage until he walks into the theater next December. He has never been able to be surprised by a Star Wars film before and he said he was looking forward to it."

Lucas, 70, famously is the mastermind behind the first six "Star Wars" films, but with J.J. Abrams directing the seventh installment, he's happy to just sit back and be a fan and consultant on this one -- and it's safe to say he's earned this right!
