Gwen Stefani Reveals Relationship With Blake Shelton Was the 'Most Unlikely Situation to Ever Happen'
Heartache brought the two "The Voice" judges together.
— -- It seems Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton met at the lonely hearts club.
During an interview with Howard Stern Wednesday, Stefani said she never could have expected to develop a romance with Shelton. Despite being on the set of "The Voice" together, the two weren’t even friends until their heartache brought them together.
“It was the most unlikely situation to ever happen,” she revealed.
After splitting from Gavin Rossdale, her husband of 13 years, Stefani was “in my hell of my life,” the singer told Stern, adding that she was definitely not looking for love.
Stefani, 46, said she turned to God and her parents for support.
“I had this huge weight on me and nobody but my parents, and obviously everybody involved, knew,” she explained.
But she managed to find solace on the set of "The Voice" when Shelton, 40, revealed to his fellow judges that he would be splitting from then-wife Miranda Lambert.
"I was in shock, because I felt like he was exposing me. I just couldn't even wrap my head around it," she said of that pivotal moment.
Eventually, Stefani began opening up to Shelton about what she was going through, and the two became friends.
“It was just unbelievable that God would put us in the position to have each other at that moment, in the exact same moment,” Stefani said, adding that “it was an incredible gift to be able to have a friend.”
Stefani and Rossdale divorced in August. The two have three children together that they continue to co-parent, according to a statement released by the couple.
Months later, Stefani has released a new album and found a new beau.
“When you have really bad things happen to you sometimes, I feel like that’s like a little bit of an awakening,” Stefani said of the past year. “And now I feel so awake.”
