Halsey Reveals She Suffered a Miscarriage Hours Before a Performance Last Year
The pop star said she beat herself up over the incident.
— -- Halsey had a frightening experience when she suffered a miscarriage while on tour last year.
The 21-year-old, whose birth name is Ashley Frangipane, tells Rolling Stone that she got pregnant before her debut studio album "Badlands" was released in August 2015.
She recalled asking herself, "What happens? Do I lose my record deal? Do I lose everything? Or do I keep [the pregnancy]? What are the fans going to think? What are the moms going to think? What is the Midwest going to think?"
Before she had a chance to decide, though, she described being in a hotel room, naked and bleeding from the waist down -- just hours before she was supposed to perform. "I'm like, 'I have to cancel this show!'" Halsey said. "No one knew what to do."
She ended up putting on an adult diaper, taking two painkillers and performing.
"It's the angriest performance that I've ever done in my life," she said. "That was the moment of my life where I thought to myself, 'I don't feel like a f------ human being anymore.' I walked offstage and went into the parking lot and just started throwing up."
Halsey told the magazine she still beats herself up over the incident, blaming the miscarriage on working too hard.
"I want to be a mom more than I want to be a pop star," she insisted. "More than I want to be anything in the world."
Halsey took to Twitter Thursday to thank fans who "have tweeted me kind things" after reading the article. She also slammed those who had negative reactions to her revealing interview.
"Those of you turning this into an opportunity to bully me: I'd say I hope you understand one day but I wouldn't wish this upon anyone," she tweeted. "It was a year ago and I am growing past it and I am looking forward to the possibilities the future will bring me in having my own family."
