Homeless Rapper Joseph Lane Gets Discovered, Drops Album
Joseph Lane says he had been making $40 per day
— -- A homeless man who spent years rapping on a subway platform in Chicago now has a record deal and a GoFundMe page to raise money for a place to live.
The rapper, Joseph Lane, who goes by the name SoLow RedLine, was spotted last month by another musician, Cordell Hunter.
Hunter’s Chicago-based record label, Wicked Entertainment, posted video of Lane rapping Tuesday to its YouTube account , asking, “Should we sign him to a Record Deal? Let us Know.”
The video, also posted on Hunter's Facebook page, quickly went viral.
Lane’s album, “Started From the Bottom,” with seven songs included, was released Thursday and is now a top-seller on Wicked’s website.
Before he was discovered, Lane said he was making $40 per day.
Wicked Entertainment officials announced the GoFundMe page Thursday to help finance a home for Lane and his family while he continues to work on his music.
One day in, the page has received 33 donations, totaling nearly $500.
