March 19, 2014— -- Netflix announced that an upcoming original series will feature protagonists Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as “Grace and Frankie."

The order calls for a thirteen-episode season that is expected to premiere in the summer of 2015.

"Friends" co-creator Marta Kauffman will write the comedic series alongside Howard J. Morris. Though good friends in reality, Fonda and Tomlin are natural enemies in the story -- a relationship forced to evolve once their husbands claim to have fallen in love with one another.

Both Emmy winners, this powerful duet is the latest instance of big-time big-screen actors moving to the smaller TV/computer screen such as "True Detective" duo Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

"Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are among the funniest and most formidable actresses ever and it’s an incredible privilege to give them the opportunity to run riot on Netflix," said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos.

The half-hour sitcom is Netflix’s latest expansion of its original series collection, which include four more upcoming series as well more seasons of the popular ‘House of Cards’ and "Orange is the New Black."
