— -- They say that life imitates art, which is why it may come as no surprise that Jennifer Lawrence drew real-life inspiration from her "Hunger Games" character, Katniss Everdeen.

According to Reuters, Lawrence revealed that she was inspired by Everdeen's confidence in order to speak out against the gender wage gap.

“I don’t see how I couldn’t be inspired by this character, I mean I was so inspired by her when I read the books, it’s the reason I wanted to play her,” Lawrence said.

Last month, Lawrence penned an essay for Lena Dunham's newsletter Lenny that critiqued the pay gap between women and men. In the essay, the actress revealed that she regrets not asking for more money during her contract negotiations for the 2013 film "American Hustle."

It was revealed during the 2014 Sony hack that Lawrence had been paid significantly less for the flick than her male co-stars Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner.

Lawrence revealed in the wage gap essay that part of the reason she did not negotiate harder was because she was scared of coming off as "spoiled," and she wanted to remain likable.

“I would be lying if I didn’t say there was an element of wanting to be liked that influenced my decision to close the deal without a real fight,” wrote Lawrence.

"At the time, that seemed like a fine idea, until I saw the payroll on the Internet and realized every man I was working with definitely didn’t worry about being ‘difficult’ or ‘spoiled,’” she continued.

Lawrence's essay created conversation about the wage inequality for women from many members of the entertainment industry, including her "American Hustle" co-stars Cooper and Renner, as well as her "Hunger Games" co-star Josh Hutcherson.

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2” will be released in theaters on Nov. 20.
