Jenny McCarthy’s ‘Odd’ New Year’s Resolution and Why She Loves Hosting New Year’s Eve Bash
McCarthy said Carrie Fisher influenced her resolution.
— -- Jenny McCarthy is again reprising her role as the co-host of the New Year’s Eve celebration alongside Ryan Seacrest Thursday on ABC, and she admits her New Year’s resolution is an odd one.
In an interview with ABC News’ Sara Haines, the entertainer explained what her new New Year’s Eve resolution was for 2016.
“Yeah mine is a little odd, I must say. I borrowed this off of Carrie Fisher. This is not her resolution, but in her recent kind of talk back to social media about her weight and her age, I thought, you know, I am tired of taking the high road sometimes, I thought, I want to be a little like Carrie Fisher in the new year,” McCarthy said. “I'd like to kind of speak my mind a little bit more instead of taking the publicist high road.”
Fisher appeared in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” 40 years after she first played Princess Leia in the original “Star Wars” film. Several people have made remarks about her age and appearance on social media, including one comment that her “body hasn’t aged as well as [she has].”
Fisher hasn't been shy about taking on those critics.
"Please stop debating about whether or not [I] aged well. Unfortunately it hurts all 3 of my feelings," Fisher joked.
McCarthy has co-hosted “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest” in Times Square for the past six years, and she says it’s one of her favorite times of the year.
“It’s the one time that I get to be around one million people who are unified, happy, and literally every year I get the chills and cry. I wish the world could be like this all of the time,” she said.
The festivities are expected to unfold under unusually warm temperatures this year.
“I think actually Dick (Clark) is looking down on us because the weather did get better,” she said. “I usually use that cold weather to kind of stay alert but now I have my 13 year old son with me so that will also help me stay alert.”
“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest” begins at 8 p.m. ET on Dec. 31 on ABC. It will feature more than five hours of music and more than 38 performances. Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Demi Lovato will perform on the show.
On the West Coast, the Billboard Hollywood Party will unfold during the broadcast in Los Angeles. It will feature performances from One Direction, Rachel Platten, 5 Seconds of Summer, Nick Jonas, Elle King and Tove Lo, among other artists.
Reports of New Year’s celebrations from around the world will also be broadcast and Seacrest and McCarthy will lead the countdown to midnight.
