Pop star Katy Perry set the Internet abuzz this weekend when she singled out a college quarterback for special notice.
During an appearance on ESPN’s “College GameDay” Saturday, Perry made public an apparent crush on University of Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight.
After picking Knight’s team to defeat the opposing Texas Christian University, a smiling Perry said: “I’m picking this one on looks. Trevor Knight, do you hear me? The quarterback for Oklahoma, we don’t mind so I’m going to go with him. Trevor Knight, call me!”
The “Dark Horse” singer’s confessed crush went viral. Via Twitter, the Sooner Nation even welcomed the singer to Knight’s fan club.
Unfortunately for the 29-year-old singer, Knight, 21, isn’t a free agent.
After Perry’s teasing comments, the Web lit up with photos of Kate Williams, Knight’s girlfriend of more than a year.
A fellow Sooner, Williams, a chemical engineering major, appears to have Knight smitten. In August, she tweeted: “Yesterday, Trevor Knight deep cleaned my apartment and brought me flowers … he’s perfect.”
The Sooners lost to TCU Saturday. After taking in the game, Perry reportedly partied like a college student, even crowd-surfing at a bar.
Knight has yet to publicly address Perry’s comments, but the quarterback’s single, older brother, Tyler, told the gossip website TMZ that he’s more than willing to play second string.
The article also has a photo of Tyler Knight posed with a sign reading “Katy Perry call me.”
